2011 Junior Golf Tours

The following list of junior golf tours starts with a local tour in Harrisonburg, Virginia and broadens out to statewide, regional, national, and even international tours. These tours made the list if they host events in the Mid-Atlantic region in 2011.

Comments:  This tour is a great local option that features low fees, a convenient schedule, and a comfortable environment for young golfers to gain competitive experience.

Comments:  This is an inexpensive and well-run junior tour that primarily serves the Charlottesville and Harrisonburg areas. It is a great place for juniors to get their first experience in competitive golf.

Comments:  This is a fairly affordable tour that serves the Washington D.C. suburban area. Tournaments are ranked on the Junior Golf Scoreboard, the Tour Championship (Invitational) is ranked in Golfweek, and the season points champions have a chance to earn AJGA status.

Comments:  The VSGA offers a cost-effective way for juniors to compete in a variety of events, including team events against other states.

 

MAPGA Junior Tour (Mid-Atlantic Professional Golfers’ Association) pga

Comments:  This is a mid-priced tour run by golf professionals from the Mid-Atlantic region. Events will feature fairly strong fields, and participation will open the door to other MAPGA sponsored junior events. Players of the year have potential to earn AJGA and IJGT exemptions.

Comments:  This is a mid-priced tour based in Maryland that places a high priority on promoting juniors for regional colleges. There is also potential for golfers to win scholarships, and the tour’s 36-hole events are accredited by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Comments:  This is a somewhat affordable regional tour with tournaments as far north as North Carolina. It offers the possibility of AJGA exemptions and rankings in the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Comments:  This tour for girls is more affordable than most junior tours and offers quite a few events that are accredited by the AJGA as well as the Junior Golf Scoreboard. Most events are in North Carolina, but there’s at least one in Virginia and several in the Greensboro/ Pinehurst region.

Comments:  This is a fairly expensive tour, but it offers quite a few events within driving distance of Virginia, and some events can earn exemption into AJGA events as well as rankings on the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Comments:  This tour has only a limited number of events, and only one fairly close to Virginia, but it has the benefit of no membership fee for participants, and offers credit with the AJGA, Junior Golf Scoreboard, and Golfweek rankings.

Comments:  This is an elite and costly tour with a limited number of events within driving distance of Virginia. One benefit, though, is that competitors on this tour can earn credit for the PBE (Performance Based Entry) in to AJGA events, which makes it potentially a valuable stepping-stone.
