Ian and I were looking forward to hosting a Special Olympics tournament at Lakeview for the first time on October 18, 2009, but the event was rained out. We did, however, get to compete in two events this fall. Early in October we played a nine-hole tourney at Lake Monticello and posted an alternate-shot score of 52, good for second place.
Over the first weekend in November we made our annual trip to Virginia Beach for the Fall Championships. We shot 111 in the first round and 55 in the final nine holes to earn a Silver Medal in our division. The highlight was Ian dropping a 12-foot birdie putt on the 13th hole at Virginia Beach National (after his coach offered to buy him dinner anywhere in Harrisonburg if he made the putt).
Ian continues to be an inspiration to everyone around him, and it is a highlight of my week when he comes to our practice session every Tuesday evening through the warm months.

A 2008 highlight for me was being in Port St. Lucie, Florida the first weekend of October with my friend and client, Ian Frazier. We competed as an alternate shot team in the National Invitational Tournament of the Special Olympics. On the Wanamaker Course at PGA Village we posted nine-hole scores of 50-52-49 over three days to earn a silver medal in our division. We also had the fourth best score out of approximately 40 teams competing in our level. But most importantly, Ian and I enjoyed a few days in Florida as we got to experience some amazing people. It's always good to be around people who have a true appreciation of life and who face their challenges with undeniable energy.
Ian and I moved on to Virginia Beach the first weekend of November for the Fall Championships of Special Olympics of Virginia, where we captured another silver. It was our third year there, but our first go at 18-hole competition.
